The Tree of Life in the Wheel of Becoming
The Rubin Museum of Art kicked off their second annual Brainwave series in February. The activities aim to “[explore] the intersection of mind and matter with nearly fifty different events, including discussions with some of the world’s premier artists and neuroscientists.”
On March 19th, Darren Aronofsky was interviewed at the Rubin Museum for “The Tree of Life in the Wheel of Becoming.”
Film director Darren Aronofsky (Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler) re-examines the quest for eternal life initially explored in his film The Fountain. Is man’s yearning for eternal youth genetically predetermined? Is the longing for everlasting life part of our survival instinct? Or is the quest one our minds fabricate to insulate us against the fear of dying? He discusses these questions and more with Patrick Grim, Distinguished Teaching Professor of Philosophy at Stony Brook, who works in logic, philosophy of mind, computer modelling, ethics and metaphysics.
This is after the fact and just an FYI, but hopefully video or a transcript will surface online soon.
